204 The Wave
Scott Hansen
$70
Intermediate
Sizes Vary –
Model is 65” x 78” * +

The Wave is a quilt with a lot of movement that can be done either horizontally, like waves of water, or vertically like the Wave in the grandstands. Using color or value, or both, you can get a lot of different looks with a quilt that is really eye catching. Its strong graphic appeal can be played up in masculine colors or prints, cool novelty prints for the kids, or soft or bold floral fabrics for a different girly look every time. It’s easy to do using the Clearview Triangle Rulers, with Scott teaching Sara Nephew and Marci Baker’s methods. You may well complete this quilt in class in one day, or at least get close...

Intermediate
40” x 50” * +

Who’d have thought that concentric rectangles could play with your head this much? This quilt is assembled from simple shapes, but the end result looks anything but simple – the more you try to focus on it, the harder it becomes to pin it down. Not to worry, we’ll do plenty of pinning (and cutting and sewing) as this quilt comes together.

Pattern Required: $10.00

205/305
Color Camp
Christine Barnes
$140
All Levels
Samples Only

Do you stress when it’s time to choose colors and fabrics for a new quilt? Do you wish you had a better “color sense”? You need to go on retreat to gain a new perspective – You need to come to Color Camp! This no-sew workshop based on Christine’s new book, The Quilter’s Color Club, consists of cut-and-paste color studies, with lots of help from the teacher and group critique of every block.

color camp christine barnes

The first three exercises focus on value (light and dark), temperature (warm and cool), and intensity (bright and dull). These characteristics, more than color itself, determine the impact of a quilt. An overview of the color wheel and another exercise expose students to this invaluable (and amazing) tool for quilters. On the second day, we explore transparency with another series of exercises. Time permitting, students may begin to work on their own quilt. It’s lots of creative fun, and you’ll leave with fresh ideas for working with color. **No Sewing Machine Necessary**

Lab Fee: $3
Book Optional: The Quilter’s Color Club – $27.95
