Now let us celebrate their beauty and diversity by using them as a basis for composition and design. In this class, we will discover the different shapes, patterns, lines, textures, colours, and symbolism of trees; while experimenting with design and using various piecing and appliqué techniques to make a beautiful quilt top. These will include foundation piecing, block making, and appliqué (hand, machine, and reverse). There will be a feast of visual inspiration as well as discussions on embroidery, quilting, and finishing. So “branch out” and try something new, by making a stunning, well-designed quilt top based on trees.

318 Neighborhood Quilt
Elizabeth Hartman
$70

Intermediate
45” x 60” *

In this quilt design from Modern Patchwork, just a few clever steps turn a collection of Log Cabin blocks into a lovely neighborhood. Framed windows allow you to add fussy-cut inhabitants to these mod houses. This is a great project for students who want to explore working with solid fabrics without abandoning prints entirely. This quilt is also a good skill-building project for a quilter who has mastered the basics and wants to take on a new challenge.
Book Required: Modern Patchwork - $24.95

Quilters Affair Workshop

319 Natural Elements
Judy Johnson
$70

All Levels
Size 34” x 34” *

You’ll have just as much fun collecting nature-inspired fabrics to use in this quilted wall art piece as you will making its circle-within-a-circle blocks. The project is quick and easy. The blocks are gently curved and simple to construct using template cutting and machine piecing. The lab fee includes a set of templates and some pre-cut fabrics that can be added to those you bring to class, if desired. And best of all – since only nine blocks are required, you’ll likely have a completed quilt top by the end of class! Lab Fee: $8

Quilters Affair Workshop

321 Log Jam
Jackie Erickson
$70

All Levels
Lap Size *

This quilt is just a whole lot of FUN! We don’t worry about seam allowances or straight seams. As a matter of fact, the more crooked the seam, the better! Using random-sized strips, you will create wonky blocks and even up the edges after all the blocks are sewn. Empty your mind of all the quilting rules you have learned over the years and let yourself be free. You will be introduced to the “naughty” side of quilting! And the best part is, all the fabric you need for a lap-size quilt will be provided in class. You don’t need to bring any fabric! Lab Fee: $16

Quilters Affair Workshop

This would be a great quilt to de-stash with—we can discuss cutting options for your size fabric pieces in class.
