Classes run from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. Two numbers together indicate a two-day class.
All workshops are held at the Sisters High School.
Each workshop is coded by level of expertise: Beginning workshops are for people who have little or no experience with quiltmaking; Advanced Beginning workshops require you to have rotary cutter and piecing experience; Intermediate workshops require you to be comfortable doing your own interpretation of patterns/designs; and Advanced workshops require you to be comfortable with all levels of designing and creating quilts. Some classes require a specific book, pattern, or lab fee. These are listed at the bottom of the class description. (Note: If the name of the book/pattern or the author is not listed, then it is the same as the name of the class or teacher.)
LUNCHES
Daily lunches will be available to quilters at the
school through the efforts of the staff at Rays Food Place.
Bagged lunches will be provided at the school Monday through
Friday for $10 and must be pre-ordered.

Need to borrow a sewing machine for your classes at Quilter’s Affair? Morrow’s Sewing & Vacuum Center will have machines available for a $20/day rental fee.

Explore machine quilting using traditional quilting designs inspired by antique quilts, keeping with the traditions in quilt making. Feathers, cables and motif designs will be covered, as well as stipple quilting and cross-hatching for background areas. Discussion will include thread choices, batting selection, and handling the larger quilt project. A great choice for those who are interested in adding to their machine quilting experience. With Sue’s expert guidance, learn to become more confident with free motion machine quilting. You don’t need a lot of machine quilting experience, but free motion quilting experience is helpful.

In this three-day class, design a whole cloth appliqué quilt using a wonderful wool background and an overall vine, flower, and berry design. Finish with 13 different birds. Embellish with couching, heishi beads, and ribbons. You can finish your piece as a wall hanging or use it as the center of a queen size quilt. The class will cover freezer paper templates, whip stitch appliqué, and the use of cotton, wool, velvet, and silk fabrics.

Play with stencils, stamps, and paints (both acrylic and 3-D) on paper and fabric, then add them to your favorite fabrics to create layers that will be embellished with sewing. You will create a mixed-media artwork that will bring the spirit of "Home" to your walls at home. Alma will supply many fabrics to share as well as many supplies, but encourages you to bring some favorites of your own–perhaps considering where your artwork might hang in your home, and selecting fabrics that will compliment your decor. Please also bring favorite threads. Basic sewing skills are helpful, but not necessary to create a wonderful piece. No previous artistic experience necessary.

This workshop explores the creation of unexpected imagery. By juxtaposing two images which do not occur in reality, we can give our quilts concept and dimension that they might not otherwise possess.
