Quilters Affair Workshop

210 Orderly Chaos
Karla Alexander
$70

All Levels
52” x 68” (Block Size: 8” x 8”) * +

The blocks in this quilt were made by duplicating black fabric in the patches for each block, then all the blocks were partially bordered with the same black fabric. The resulting pattern makes it difficult to find the original block. The creative process used for the border is awesome and can easily be adapted for other quilts. FABRIC TIP: Choose a main fabric for the repeating color. Karla chose black, however, she has also made this quilt with off white as the main repeating color and was very happy with the results. For the other fabric for the blocks and border, choose a mix of your favorite colors in small scale or solid contrasting fabrics. Book Suggested:

This quilt block is simply a modification of the “snail’s trail” block, to create a curling wave look. The block can work in a variety of sizes, colors, orientations and layouts. The class is designed to help students understand the math that is needed to create pieced triangle quilts in a simple rotary cutting fashion. This quilt can be strip-pieced, and the quilt top can be completed in a fairly short amount of time. The quilt top designs may be changed as you like, as the goal is to understand and create the blocks. Once the blocks are finished the variations for the center of the quilt are limitless. Quilters Affair Workshop

222 Crossroads
Amy Walsh
$70

Advanced Beginning
84” x 84” *

Amy used a selection of blue and teal batiks to make the original Crossroads quilt. In choosing fabrics, she made sure to have a variety of hues and shades, and a ton of contrast—this meant choosing some fabrics that were light in value and some that were dark. Amy also tried to find batiks that were, for the most part, tonal (they did not have any other colors in their design). If you have never made a monochromatic/analogous quilt, now’s your chance! If you prefer to use a variety of colors, be sure to include enough fabrics to create contrast within each block. That way, your piecing will be more apparent when your quilt top is sewn together. Book Required: Colorful Quilts for Fabric Lovers – $21.95
