Kid’s Sewing Camp*

helpers will be heading
up a very fun week
of sewing projects
for students 10 years
and older. All supplies
will be included in the
fee and students will
get to choose their
own fabrics from
the Stitchin’ Post on
the first day of class.
We will begin with a
pillowcase, then cover a book to make a journal,
construct a drawstring bag, and complete a cell
phone tote. There will be time devoted to learning
about the sewing machine and an introduction to
basic sewing techniques. There will be a snack
mid-morning each day.

Beginning Sun Printing

Learn how to create one-of-a-kind fabric with
interesting textures, shading, light, medium and dark,
and more. Non-toxic fabric paints, white fabric, salt,
sand and more will be explored in the sun printing
process. No experience is necessary, just a willingness
to play and be surprised.

Advanced Sun Printing

This class will build on the knowledge and experience
of the sun printing process learned in the
Beginning Sun Printing class. New techniques to
manipulate and control the sun printing process will
be covered.

How do I rate my Skill Level?
(Sewing)
Beginning: I have little or no experience with quilt making
Advanced Beginning: I have experience with rotary cutter and piecing
Intermediate: I am comfortable with interpreting patterns and designs
Advanced: I am comfortable with all levels of designing, sewing,
and creating quilts
What are my Basic Sewing
Supplies (BSS)?
BSS includes sewing machine in good working
order, rotary cutter, cutting mat, ruler, scissors, tape
measure, pencil, pins, and seam ripper.
(Kitting/Crochet)
Beginning: Little or no experience knitting or
crocheting.
Advanced Beginning: Experience with the following: knit and purl, cast
on and bind off, increase/decrease stitches,
and knitting in the round. Ability to read simple
patterns and an understanding of making and
calculating gauge samples. Knowledge of simple
pattern stitches is very helpful.
Use of double pointed needles and basic finishing
techniques are also helpful.
Intermediate: Ability to read and understand
moderately complex patterns – such as garments – and experience with simple color changes.
Knowledge of cable stitches, beginning lace
stitches, the ability to short row and experience
with a three needle bind-off are recommended.
Advanced: Experience with adjusting and adapting
patterns, gauge, and size. Also an understanding
of knitting and crocheting terminology
(abbreviations), and interpreting stitch charts.
Experience with Fairisle, Intarsia, Entrelac, Aran,
and Kitchner stitches is also recommended.
