Thread It!
Johanne Gibson
$35 +BSS
Tue, May 1
9-4 pm
Choose a multi-colored, mottled batik fabric
without a printed design, and let the fabric suggest a
design to you. What do you see ~ big flowers, bold
fruit, a pink flamingo? Think “cloud gazing.” Using a
variety of threads and free-motion stitching, create a
whole cloth design that accentuates how the fabric
speaks to you. Your newly created whole cloth piece
can become a wall hanging, table runner, a tote bag,
or whatever creative idea you interpret. Some experience
with free-motion stitching is required. This is a
fantastic way to improve your free-motion skills.

things all her life, but fell in love with
quilt making in the late 1990’s and
has never looked back. Her first book,
The Practical Guide to Patchwork, was published in
October 2010 by Stash Books and was selected as
the winner in the “How To” category of the 2011 Next
Generation Indie Book Awards. Her second book,
Modern Patchwork, will be published in May 2012.

Learn a fun and
striking piecing technique
and create a modern

hybrid of planned and
improvisational piecing,
making them perfect for
quilters who like the idea of “experimentation with
a plan.” Using Elizabeth’s pattern, students will have
four variations for making the pieced stacks in four
different sizes. Make one or make them all! This is a
fun piecing technique that you will want to use again

Rain or Shine
At the Stitchin’ Post
$125* (includes lunches)
Fri & Sat, May 4 and 5
9-4 pm |
The Rain or Shine
quilt is so named because
the blocks equally
resemble a sunburst and
the top of an umbrella!
Students will learn a fun
and versatile block from
Elizabeth’s book, The
Practical Guide to Patchwork,
while working with points and angles. This quilt
is the perfect canvas for bold, modern fabrics. Students
can also use a variety of monochromatic prints
to turn each block into a mini color wheel. Day One of
the workshop will focus on cutting the block fabrics,
planning the block layouts, and sewing the blocks.
Day Two will focus on cutting the sashing fabric and
