The theme for this session
of meetings is A Snowman For
All Seasons. Each month we will
focus on a different snowman
to put in a quilt or wall hanging.
You’ll learn how to do machine
embroidery appliqué OR you can
choose to work on your own embroidery
project to put on a quilt,
towel, handbag, etc. We’ll network with each other
and share ideas.
*If you choose to make the snowmen, a purchase of the
CD is required and must be pre-ordered at least 10 days
before the first class, payable to instructor ($60).
**Knowledge of your embroidery machine, in good working
order, is mandatory.

Pincushion a Month Club

Each month the club will make a different pincushion.
You will learn about different stuffing materials
and new techniques for stuffing and sewing. Jackie
will also introduce to you new books and patterns.
Each month a kit will be available to club members.

$5 Quilt Club
2nd Saturdays – September 11*, October 9, November 13, December 11, January 8, February 12, March 12, April 9, and May 14

Join us for a one-of-a-kind quilt club.
This year we will be doing a New York Beauty quilt. Paper piecing
techniques will be used. A paper piecing tutorial will be handed out at
our first meeting and you will be invited to stay and
work on the tutorial until 11:30 am. Jean will be on
hand to help if you have any questions. If you wish
to stay for the tutorial, be sure to bring your sewing
machine and your basic sewing supplies.
Each month you will get a packet of fabric and
new pattern(s). In addition, you will add some of
your own fabrics for backgrounds and to personalize
your quilt. Arrive at each meeting with your finished
blocks(s) and you will receive a new fabric packet
and pattern. At the first club meeting, you will pay $5
and receive your first packet. During the subsequent
months, if you do not finish the block from the prior
month, you will need to pay $5 again. If you cannot
attend the meeting, send a friend with your block.
*You are invited to stay and stitch on the tutorial handed
out in the first meeting until 11:30 am.

Fractured Stars

of fabrics and learn the shortcuts for making these
fractured stars that look like LeMoyne stars. Don’t
worry, no y-seams to conquer in class. The background
of the quilt uses five different fabrics -- all
basically the same value while the stars are made
from two different color groups of fabric. This is a fun
quilt to make. |

Do you love mystery quilt projects so much that
you wish they would never end? Well, here are two
different opportunities to make two different quilts
that will keep you guessing! After each meeting you
will go away with sewing tasks, then come back the
next month for the next clue. In the last session,
Lawry will “unveil” the finished quilt and you also get
to share your quilt with your own creative touch.
*Mini-Mystery will be held on the 4th Saturday in October.

Quilt-As-You-Go

For those of you wanting a quilt-as-you-go class,
here is your answer. The piecing of these blocks allows
you to complete the quilting as you assemble the
blocks. Blocks are completed, sew them together, and
you are done with the quilt. Plan on starting a runner,
crib quilt, lap quilt or twin size quilt in class. Come
with fabric, batting, and backing because all three are
needed to make each block.

Knitting Socks
on Two Circular Needles

Learn to knit a basic sock on two circular needles. In the first class, we will cast
on, create the ribbing for the top of the sock and start to knit the basic body of the
sock. During the second class, we will focus on creating a gusseted heel completing
the heel turn. And, in the last class, we will finish the sock with a simple “star
toe.”

Abstract Landscape Design

Let the flowing forms in nature
be your inspiration in this design
exploration workshop. Land,
water, sky, rocks, and details in
leaves and wood can all be starting
points for this process. Line
is the focal point of design. Exercises
are planned to build your confidence in piecing, color, value, and design
skills. Then the emphasis will be on the planning and execution of an original
design focusing on a color palette that excites you using inspirational photos
that you have brought along. In the end, you will have documented your journey
in a journal-like format and begun a one-of-a-kind quilt. New material will be
presented each day for ideas and inspiration for present or future projects.

What are my Basic Sewing
Supplies (BSS)?
BSS includes sewing machine in good working
order, rotary cutter, cutting mat, ruler, scissors, tape
measure, pencil, pins, and seam ripper.
How do I rate my Skill Level?
(Sewing)
Beginning: Little or no experience with quilt making.
Advanced Beginning: Experience with a rotary cutter and piecing.
Intermediate: Comfortable with interpreting patterns and designs.
Advanced: Comfortable with all levels of designing, sewing,
and creating quilts.
(Knitting/Crochet)
Beginning: Little or no experience knitting or
crocheting.
Advanced Beginning: Experience with the following: knit and purl, cast
on and bind off, increase/decrease stitches,
and knitting in the round. Ability to read simple
patterns and an understanding of making and
calculating gauge samples. Knowledge of simple
pattern stitches is very helpful.
Use of double pointed needles and basic finishing
techniques are also helpful.
Intermediate: Ability to read and understand
moderately complex patterns – such as garments – and experience with simple color changes.
Knowledge of cable stitches, beginning lace
stitches, the ability to short row and experience
with a three needle bind-off are recommended.
Advanced: Experience with adjusting and adapting
patterns, gauge, and size. Also an understanding
of knitting and crocheting terminology
(abbreviations), and interpreting stitch charts.
Experience with Fairisle, Intarsia, Entrelac, Aran,
and Kitchner stitches is also recommended.
