This is a wonderful project for batiks, as their
jewel tones lend themselves to this scrappy quilt. The
block is an easy one and students will use cutting and
piecing techniques to ensure an accurate block. The
blocks will be set diagonally with surefire instructions
on how to cut and piece the corner and side-setting
triangles. There is also the opportunity to use a small

Collaborative Chicks

December 19, January 16, February 20 (note new date)
10 - 4 pm
Advanced Beginning BSS*
$40 each class or $200 for all six classes (includes lunches)
Six Stitchin’ Post quilt instructors (the collaborative chicks) have
joined together to explore quilts in Freddy & Gwen Collaborate
Again: Freewheeling Twists on Traditional Quilt Designs, by Gwen
Marston and Freddy Moran. Six months, one Saturday each month,
will be devoted to a workshop with a different instructor. Each
instructor has chosen a quilt from the book and will interpret it in
their own color and fabric style palette, adding their personal flair
and expertise. In March, when Freddy and Gwen return to teach
a workshop, we will host an evening Show and Tell event with the class/club
quilts. The finished quilts will also be in a special exhibit at the Sisters Outdoor
Quilt Show’s 35th anniversary.
The classes will be limited to 24 students and will include a light lunch. Sign
up for all six classes and receive one class free or take what you like. If you are
a six-month member you are also invited to create a “self portrait chick” that will
be added to the Collaborative Chicks banner for the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show
special exhibit.

Sunday, September 20,
10:30 - 4:30 pm
Monday, September 21, 9 - 3 pm
Intermediate BSS
$45

The quilts from Gee’s Bend fascinate Tonye and
Jean. In this workshop, they will present some basic
shapes that are used in quilt design. Students will
play with design concepts, then choose one or more
to pursue in the workshop. An example is the “house
top” design where you begin with a square and keep
adding borders, interrupting them at times with fabrics
pieced into the strips. A medallion design is created
using this technique. Piecing will be very intuitive as
will color choices.
