Our accountant Barb Steinberg is a masterful weaver but claims she's "not much of a knitter." She arrived one month end wearing this charming scarf and, when we asked for the pattern, she said she wasn't quite sure what she'd done. well, we took if off her, dissected it, wrote it up. 'not much of a knitter' indeed!

Our mothers (and their mothers) knew this sock by heart, with its vertical heel flap, turned heel, picked up gussets and grafted toe, For many of us, it's the first sock we learned and our point of departure into the ever widening world of socks. While we love some of the new approaches, we return again and again to this straightforward, comfy basic. Once you understand its simple structure, improvise to your heart's content.

This simple beret happened quite by accident. We were re-scaling our favorite beret in Shetland dk and it turned out comically large. Hey, we thought, might as well felt it! Linen stitch has a way of harmonizing even the most disparate colors. Our friend Mimi Hepler first created this scarf to use up all her precious Koigu leftovers 18 different color ways! So for our scarf we chose three skeins of Koigu that combined as many different colors as possible. But i's equally beautiful in subtle shades. In fact, we haven't seen a bad combination yet! That's the magic of linen stitch, Heck, it's even beautiful on the 'wrong' side.

Our favorite lengthwise scarf takes advantage of the fact that, if you start with three yarns and change yarn every row, the next one you need will always be waiting right where you need it as if a by magic! Because you're changing yarns every row, you get a beautifully integrated fabric not too stripey with no wrong side. We love putting yarns together, but it's a great stash busting project, too.

Pressed Rib Cap & Muffler

We fell in love with a handsome muffler in a favorite designer's shop. On closer inspection we discovered that it was simply K2/P2 ribbing, What, we wondered, made this scarf so special? It was the finishing. The ribbing was pressed flat which gave the fabric a soft, elegant hand, We've added a companion watch cap with a nice 4 part decrease that's a little more finished, a little more refined.

One big, luscious, lofty cable, in a reversible rib so it's just as gorgeous on both sides. Wrap the shorter version various ways with a pin or a big button. We sewed two tweedy buttons together back to back for a jumbo 'cuff link' and buttoned them through the holes created by the cable twist. Turkish Bed Socks

Inspired by a pair of socks entered in our "Koigu & You" customer show, we designed these little one skein slipper socks for the 2009 LYS Tour. They make great gifts as they're easy to fit and don't take a lot of yarn. They're nice for around the house. And terrific for travel. Great to wear with clogs.

Two Way Ruffled Scarf

This romantic scarf, devised for the 2010 LYS tour, was inspired by a clever piece our friend Candace brought home from Italy. Each one skein scarf can be knit in simple stockinette or easy eyelet lace, then worn on its own tied in a variety of ways, or layered one inside the other for double ruffle drama. Go for high contrast or soft, subtle shades. Oh, the possibilities!

Welted Cowl & Infinity Loop

We noticed that some knitters were knitting the cowl form our Churchmouse Classics 'Easy Folded Poncho' separately and that gave us an idea, Why not double the cowl's circumference for an infinity loop that you can wear long and elegant, or twist double for twice the cozy? We added purl welts for a sculptural effect. And, while we were at it, we two toned it for clever reversibility!
